Madison Community Garden

Non-profit Website

Visit

Madison Community Garden (MCG) was founded in 1995 with the mission of cultivating community through urban agriculture, providing fresh produce for those in need, and educating Madison’s youth through hands-on learning opportunities. Participation in the community garden’s programs had dropped in 2014 and 2015. MCG was looking to have a website developed to increase community awareness of and participation in the programs.

Design Process

Applying responsive design principles, I designed the MCG website so that visitors would have a similar experience regardless of the device being used. I began with wireframes, which are low-fidelity drawings used to plan a website’s basic structure and functionality.

MCG wireframes

The next step was planning the overall visual design of the MCG website. The completed website was coded based on the high-fidelity mockups created at this stage.

Results

The website was launched in March of 2017. Participation in Madison Community Garden’s programs during the 2017 growing season (spring through fall) showed a 25% increase over the previous year. MCG’s volunteer base grew by 10% during that time period, with the majority of new volunteers submitting their applications through the website.
