I recently worked with the Big Rapids Downtown Business Association on a redesign of their WordPress website, downtownbigrapids.com. The DBA wanted the website to make event information more easily accessible and the member directory more organized and easier to navigate.
When it came to building the member directory, I looked into several different directory plugins for WordPress. None of the plugins seemed to be a good fit for the DBA's needs, so I decided to go the custom route. I created a custom post type for the individual listings, custom taxonomies for the categories, and templates to display them. The fields within the lists are stored in custom fields created with the Advanced Custom Fields plugin.
